AMAZING GOLDEN WEB SPIDER

spider

This is a photo taken by me of a female of a Golden Web Spider,Nephila pilipes, found on a tree in Bang Krang campsite. The common name refers to the color of the spider’s silk. This species of spider is one of the biggest spiders in the world and can be found in China,Japan,Southeast Asia,India,Sri Lanka ,Papua New Guinea and Northern Australia. As you can see in the picture, females are quite large and they can grow to 30-50 mm while males only grow up to 5-6mm.They make a very large and strong web.Their webs are vertical, not symmetrical with the hub nearer the top. They seems to be common in Thailand.
